Starbucks' app is the most used mobile payment app in the U.S. because it's well-designed and convenient. But if you use the iOS version on your iPhone, your username, email address, password and location data could be compromised because the app stores them in plain text.

The good news is that someone would need physical access to your phone to get a hold of your data. The bad news is that once they have the phone in hand, it's really easy to do, even if your phone is locked with a passcode.Starbucks has confirmed Wood's findings, but says that customers have little to worry about. They've known about the issue for a while and claim to have "adequate security measures in place now," but a subsequent test of the updated version found the same vulnerability.
How to Protect Your InformationSo, what can you do to protect yourself until the app is fixed? The best thing you can do is keep your phone with you at all times. It's also a good idea to remove any credit or debit cards you have linked to the app to reload it.More importantly, make sure your Starbucks account doesn't share a username and password with any of your other accounts. On the off-chance a thief grabs your phone, you don't want to give them access to your email and bank accounts, too.If you want to make sure you're totally 100% safe, uninstall the app and go back to using a physical card or just good old-fashioned cash for the time being. It may not be as convenient, but it sure beats worrying about one more way to have your shit stolen.

A new program, outlined by Dwight Silverman over on the Houston Chronicle website, seeks to provide Xfinity customers with city-wide Wi-Fi hotspots by using, well...other customers' wireless routers.On the surface, this may seem innocuous enough—especially considering Comcast's insistence that the two connections always remain separate. But, as we well know, very little of our data is truly secure, and any extra vulnerability like this will invariably open the door to potential exploits, though that may not necessarily be the case here.Customers will be notified with a mailer before their router is remotely turned into a public hotspot, and when Comcast flips the switch, they'll send out an email to reiterate. But, for a company whose customer service is rated so poorly that it even has its own Wikipedia article, an opt-out service with these kind of reprocussions seems ill-advised. Whether you are sending your phone in for repairs or finally selling it to upgrade to a new flagship, you are going to need to make sure all of your personal data is removed from your device.Deleting your messages and pictures manually is a good to protect yourself from average users, but in the hands of someone with the right set of skills, they are all easily recoverable. While there is no definite way to securely and permanently remove all of your data other than throwing the thing in a microwave (don't do that!), there are some measures you can take to make sure a majority of your data is wiped clean from your device.
Stock vs. Rooted DevicesHow you go about doing this depends on if you have a stock or rooted Android. If you have a stock device, you can simply encrypt it, then erase your data through your Settings app. But if you have a rooted device with TWRP loaded as your recovery image, then you can use its Wipe menu to factory reset your Android. Both methods provide the same level of protection from intruders, so stick with whatever process is easier for you.If you are doing this just to send your device in for repairs and plan on using it again once it is returned to you, then you may consider creating a nandroid to return your rooted device back to its current settings, but if you are going to switch devices, you can simply use ADB to back up your data.Keep in mind that ADB backups can be restored to any device no matter if it's rooted or stock.

Step 1: Encrypt DataBefore getting started with the wipe, you'll need to encrypt the data on your Android device. Unlike a normal lock screen which only prevents people from accessing your device through USB, encryption works by scrambling your data and locking it using a special cryptographic key. That means all data on your phone and anything created afterwards will require that key in order to be opened, which is great if someone was trying to copy all of your data onto their computer.Starting the encryption process requires three things:A lock screen password (can be enabled in Security settings) A charged battery The device must be plugged into a charger With those out of the way, you can device-encryption by going to Settings -> Security where you'll see the option to "Encrypt phone." After starting the encryption process, do not try to stop it because doing so will cause some or all of your data to be lost. Once completed (about a hour or so), your Android will reboot and you will prompted for your password in order to begin using your device.

You probably already know what you want to do when you grab your phone. More than likely, you're either going to make a call, send a text, or open an app. So why can't you just do that right from your Samsung Galaxy S3's lock screen?Instead of entering in your passcode or pattern, swiping through your home screen, or searching in your app drawer, I'll show you how to launch your most frequently used apps and widgets right from a custom lock screen—with the added benefit of having a more secure pattern lock. Step 1: Install LockScreen FreeDownload the LockScreen Free app by the GoodAppsTeam on Google Play. This app gives you the freedom to add a ton of your favorite and most-used apps to your lock screen. Once added, you can create a unique pattern and one-touch security protection that allows instant access to your favorite apps. So, after you enter in your pattern (keeping you finger on the screen) you can move over to the application you wish to launch and it will open immediately.

Step 2: Activate Device AdministratorAfter you download and install LockScreen Free, you'll be asked to activate the app. Go ahead and allow it, there's really not much to see here. Hit Activate at the bottom right and you'll be taken into the app. You will see a small pop-up window explaining a few things you can do to make the app run smoothly. Hit OK and follow these tips if you haven't done so already.NOTE: After installing and activating the app, there will be two different icons for LockScreen Free on your home screen. I haven't figured out why this occurs, but it's not a big deal. You can remove one or both of the shortcuts if you want.

Step 3: Create Your PasswordNext you are going to want to create your password. There will be a group of app icons shown. From this group, you will create a patterned passcode. Once you have entered and confirmed your password, you're all set to begin using the app. You can also set up a password recovery so that you never have to fear being locked out of your phone. Just go to Password Recovery and select or create a question and answer.

Step 4: Adding & Removing IconsWhen you first set up your password, there will be a preset list of icons. You can add and remove icons from this list by tapping on Programs List and checking or unchecking your preferred applications. You can also change the location of your icons by selecting Icon's Position. When you add or remove apps, or change the position of icons, you will automatically be prompted to set up a new password. Since you moved stuff around, your password will obviously need to adjust to the changes as well.There is a 20-app limit on the number that can be displayed on your lockscreen, so be aware of that as well.

Step 5: Add Contacts & WidgetsLockScreen free does more than just applications. You can add widgets and contact favorites, as well. In the app menu, you can go to Widgets or Favorite Numbers to add them. Your widget and favorite numbers will now appear on your lockscreen. If you have too many applications already on the lockscreen, you may need to remove some in order to make space for these additions.

Step 6: Choose a WallpaperNo lockscreen is complete without a great background image. With LockScreen Free, you can select an image from your phone or the app's collection to add to the background.

Step 7: Enjoy Your New Lock ScreenNow that everything is set up, you can begin using and enjoying the benefits of your new lockscreen. You can test out the favorites option, open all of your most used apps, and so on. If you just want to open to your home screen and not a specific application, you can do so by entering in your pattern (keeping your finger on the screen) and then selecting any empty space on the lockscreen.

LockScreen ProThere is a premium version available as an in-app purchase ($2.09) that gets rid of all ads, which you will notice at the bottom of your lockscreen. It also allows for other application themes and enables a flashlight.

Uninstalling LockScreen FreeTo uninstall the application, you'll need to remove it from within the app itself. Select LockScreen Free and scroll all the way to the bottom until you see Uninstall. You will also need to select a reason for why you're uninstalling the app before it'll let you do it—very annoying. Once you're done, the app will then uninstall.Have you tried LockScreen Free? Step 1: Remove the BatteryFirst, open up the back panel of your LG V20 by pressing the release button on the bottom-right side of your device. Use your screwdriver to remove them and carefully place them aside. Don't lose any, as you'll be putting them back in shortly. Step 3: Remove the Plastic Speaker GrilleUsing either your SIM removal tool or your tweezers, poke out or pull off the little plastic grille covering the speaker cutout on the bottom chin. This is what will make all of the difference in audio quality, as it was previously muffling the sound. When you're done, make sure to clean off any residual glue. Last year, Apple debuted a feature that allows families to share iTunes and App Store purchases across their various accounts. Us Android users, on the other hand, have to buy separate copies of apps for each of our accounts—well, at least from an official standpoint.Truth be told, though, it's fairly simple to work around this issue. If you live in a multi-Android household, all you have to do to share an app you've purchased is add your account to the other person's device. Of course, there are some technical details, which I'll outline below, but this would even be a great way to create a shared family account for all app purchases.

Step 1: Add a Secondary AccountSo let's say you have several apps that you've purchased on Google Play, and your family member wants to install a few on their own Android device, but you don't want to pay for them all over again. Well, to begin, you'll simply need to borrow your family member's phone for a few minutes.Next up, head to the main Settings menu on your family member's phone or tablet, then choose the "Accounts" option and tap "Add account." From here, select "Google" as your account type, then enter your own account credentials to log in. If you have two-step verification enabled, make sure to check your own device for the authentication code at this point.

Step 2: Disable Sync for the Secondary AccountNext, you'll probably want to disable the various sync options for the account you just added so your family member doesn't get your emails, for example. Back on the "Accounts" page in settings, tap the "Google" entry, then choose the account you just added to this device. From here, make sure to deselect all of the syncing options so that notifications from your own Google account don't come through on this device.

Step 3: Switch Accounts in the Play Store AppAt this point, your family member is just about ready to install apps that you purchased on your own Google account. Open their Play Store app and head to the side navigation menu, then tap your family member's account near the top of the page. From here, select your own account instead, and you'll be all set. From now on, the "My apps" section of your family member's Play Store app will show all of the apps you've installed and purchased on your own device. Since the initial Google account that purchased these apps is now tied to this device, your family member will be able to rightfully install any app you've paid for.If you want to take it a step further, create a separate Google account for all future app purchases, then tie this account to all of your family's devices using these same steps. I'm confused. The Music player on the lock screen, only appears if you are actively playing something when you turn on the screen. If you have not been playing anything, or pause it and unlock the iPhone and then turn off the iPhone, the playback section should disappear. It will not disappear if you just pause from the lock screen and turn if off.

Even the Color OS version of the OnePlus One has received better reviews when comparing low-light shots, which implies that it's not the camera sensor that's lacking, but the software.With that in mind, OPO owner adbi08638 sought out a way to make CameraNext a viable alternative to the big guys. His modified camera app contains all of the same features as the stock CameraNext, but with low-light improvements, better shutter controls, and more burst shot options. To increase low-light photos, you will need to increase the Slow shutter duration, but know that this requires a steady hand since the finished product will be blurry if you move.

Experimental SettingsThe dev also included some experimental settings to the "Camera" section, like "Skin tone enhancement" and "Red eye reduction." There are also options to adjust the sharpness, contrast, and saturation levels, which should improve the overall appearance of your photos.
